We held the final meeting of our 6-week small group for 20s & 30s. It was a great evening of discussion, evaluation, art and reflection. Karen made superb spelt flour brownies … gobbled up. Sharon led us in some time of thinking about and listening to God using our right-brains … meaning lots of creativity flying around … fabulous.
We also had a good time of talking about how the group has impacted people and where everyone would like to go from here. And so everyone knows … here’s what we said.
We started with …
About this 5-week stint… What was fun? What was good? What gave you pause for thought? Did anything inspire? Was anything new? Was anything challenging? What element did you like about what we did? Anything else?
- the Shipwreck exercise was good and fun
- the book was inspiring, thought provoking …not everyone liked the book … but found that through discussion it was beneficial to hear and we were able to learn from different peoples’ perspectives
- the group was new, fun, & positive
- it was helpful having something happen on a regular, consistent basis
- it was interesting to discuss the christian walk through the lens of mythical stories
- we were pushed to change
- appreciated time to talk … time for relationship building
- activities wee fun … drumming circle (thanks Sam), shipwreck, Sharon’s activities
- good food
- everyone’s effort to come out and participate
- Sari’s place was perfect!
Thanks everyone for offering those thoughts.
Looking ahead … Would you like to be a part of a small group again? What would you like to see included? Did a 5 or 6 week stint work for you? Is there another length of time that would work better for you? What would you be interested in exploring … in terms of content? How do you see yourself being involved in the future?
- Yes … let’s do it again in the Fall .. 5 or 6 weeks works… if we do a book – 5 weeks is a short time to digest and discuss a whole book …
- We could do a book // a topic // Bible study … Do you have a preference?
- Here are some topics that were mentioned as being of interest for possible further study … relationships, end times study, early history of the church, sexuality, spirituality, angels & demons, true seekers, work/calling/vocation, social justice, current events, applying christian principles in everyday life, films/movies
To decide on where we go with a study this fall …
WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK
- please reply to this email and let us know what your first and second choices are in terms of topic. If something else has come to your mind … please add it.
- Sharon and Cheryl would be happy to lead another study in the Fall and will take these ideas and figure out which ones we feel we can lead.
THERE ARE SOME EVENTS in the works for the SUMMER … read on
- Sharon’s POOL PARTY & BBQ … Friday July 16th join in anytime after 5:00 PM… Everyone’s welcome … join in whether you made it to all studies, 1 study, no studies … and invite others who would like to join in. It would be most helpful if you could let Sharon or Cheryl know that you are coming … you know, for food quantities and stuff.
- Bowling with Laura … There’s a Bowling Alley somewhere near Laura B’s place and she’s going to plan an evening of bowling fun for everyone sometime in July(?)
- BBQ & Games … Karen and Abe would like to have everyone over for a bbq and games night in August …
- Sandro suggests doing something like Jersey Boys or Rock of Ages and he’s going to look into whether anythings available and when
SO how will you find out the details for these events?
- Come to Sharon’s POOL PARTY … and we’ll have more info then
- There may be an email or two sent out to let everyone know what the exact plan is.
- There was some concern expressed that the website is not up to date and so not that helpful … hmm … I’d agree and I’m the one keeping it up. Cheryl will do what she can sometime soon to update it. If anyone else would have an interest in taking on a project with the 2030 website and making it a happening thing … just speak to me, Cheryl. I’d be glad to share the fun.
Thanks everyone for making our 2030 Small Group Experiment such a good one.
Cheryl
